Consulting
Laurie A. Couture will provide on-site consulting to the following programs in the Massachusetts, New Hampshire and southern Maine area:

  • K-12 Schools
  • Social Service Agencies and Programs
  • Day Care Programs
  • Residential Treatment Programs

Consultations includes:

  • Assessment of the program’s goals and philosophy
  • Assessment of practices in place for meeting the physical, psychosocial and educational needs of children
  • Assessment of the disciplinary practices in place for guiding the behaviors of young people
  • Assessment of the effectiveness of the current practices in providing for children and guiding their behaviors
  • Specific recommendations for alterations in the program to improve services provided to children
  • Follow up assessment
  • Legal services and budgeting advice are not provided

Positive Discipline Trainings for Schools
Laurie A. Couture will provide on-site trainings/workshops to K-12th grade public and private schools in the Massachusetts, New Hampshire and southern Maine area , including alternative school programs.

Training includes:

  • Discussion of the school’s goals and philosophy
  • Discussion of practices in place for meeting the physical, psychosocial and educational needs of children
  • Discussion of the disciplinary practices in place for guiding the behaviors of young people
  • Overview of the goals of education and discipline
  • Overview of the developmental needs of young people at various age groups
  • Strategies for implementing a program of sensitive, positive discipline in the classroom/school based on restitution
  • Understanding the motives and needs behind negative behaviors
  • Discussion of the harmful effects of punishment
  • Strategies for implementing a program of child-directed learning in the classroom
  • Troubleshooting specific or common problems

Laurie A. Couture will provide on-site trainings/workshops to social service agencies that work with children in the Massachusetts, New Hampshire and southern Maine area.

Training includes:

  • Discussion of practices in place for meeting the physical, psychosocial and educational needs of children

Laurie A. Couture will provide on-site workshops to parenting groups or agencies in the Massachusetts, New Hampshire and southern Maine area , including foster parent groups.

Training includes:

  • Overview of the developmental needs of young people at various age groups
  • Overview of the goals of discipline and education
  • Understanding the motives and needs behind negative behaviors
  • Understanding different parenting styles and which one is best for children
  • Understanding the difference between discipline and punishment
  • Discussion of the harmful effects of corporal punishment
  • Understanding the importance of nurturing a positive, attachment-based relationship with children
  • Discussion of how to practice sensitive, positive discipline in the home
  • Troubleshooting specific or common problems
  • Strategies for protecting your children from punitive practices in school
  • Discussion of self-directed learning and how you can take charge of your child’s education
  • Legal, custody and IEP advice is not provided

Child Advocacy
Laurie A. Couture can be commissioned to provide advocacy on behalf of your child through a written correspondence to your child’s teacher or school in the case of improper discipline or inhumane practices in the classroom. If you reside in the Massachusetts, New Hampshire or southern Maine area, Laurie A. Couture can be commissioned to accompany you to a school or parent-teacher conference to advocate on your child’s behalf. Note: Legal, special educational and IEP assistance is not provided.
